Teaching

Eight courses taught as instructor of record at the University of Arizona, from introductory linguistics to psycholinguistics and syntax.

Teaching approach

I believe students learn best by doing. In my courses, a short introduction to each concept is followed by hands-on work, such as workshops, games, data problems and the analysis of real language examples, so that students practice the ideas in class rather than only hearing about them. I teach students from many majors, and I try to make linguistics concrete by connecting it to the languages they speak and are learning. Above all, I want my classroom to be a place where we learn together, and where questions and mistakes are a normal part of learning.
